Your friends have better tastethan the algorithm.

A private social network for your friends and family. One of you runs it; everyone shares the best of TikTok, Instagram, X and eleven more into one feed.

In the demo you’re Sam, and your friends have been busy. No sign-up.

Next to it, ADHX on an iPhone playing Aurora, a copper ribbon of sound twisting in 3D, posted on X by @joecroskey, with reactions floating up from Jo, Ben and Ana, and a note that Mum just saved the RC808 drum synth photos by @XWAVEart.
Friends only

A whole social network.Population: your friends.

The big networks are built for strangers and advertisers. ADHX keeps the good part: your people find the best of all of them and share it with each other. Who saved what stays between you.

Versus the group chat

Why not just the group chat?

Keep it for the chatting. And when one’s too good, Share sends the actual video back to it.

  • Links die.ADHX keeps the actual video, in the best quality going. Deleted on X? Still in your copy.
  • Nobody scrolls back 4,000 messages.Describe it (“the baby arguing with a hamster”) and it turns up.
  • “Who sent this?”Every post wears the face of whoever saved it. Credit where it’s due.
The meme vault

Deleted on X. Still in your copy.

A real copy of every save, in the best quality going. Share sends the actual file to any app.

ADHX can’t keep posts that are private or DRM-protected.

Sending from ADHX on iPhone: the video itself, 540p, 219 KB, not a link that dies next month. Send via WhatsApp, Copy, Files, Save to Photos, or straight to Pete, Jo, Ben or Mum.
Search

Type what you remember: the punchline, what someone said, the words on screen. It turns up.

ADHX search on the web for colour palettes for a website: two strong matches, the best one playing, a colour palette inspiration site posted on X by @AdhamDannaway, saved by Jo and Mum.
Saver faces

Ana and Ben saved this.

Every post wears the faces of whoever kept it. Shared by default; flip Just for me to keep one to yourself.

The ADHX share card on Android: Saved for your people, kept a copy at 600p. Jo, Ben, Ana and Mum will see it, a note field, and the Just for me switch, off.
Home

Predictable, on purpose.

Just saved, then what you haven’t seen, then more like what you keep. Every post says why it’s next.

ADHX on iPhone: Up next over Home. Just saved first, in the order it will play, each with whose save it is: Color palette inspiration, Aurora, the Audio-to-MIDI model playing now, Sound Lab, a synth that becomes whatever you type.
Channels

Rabbit holes, dug by your friends.

Channels from everyone’s saves, named for what they’re about. Plus one per friend, with what’s new to you on top.

ADHX Channels on the web: From everyone (Synths you can play, Pixel-art games, Plugins worth a look, Colour and type), Your people (Jo, Ben, Ana and Mum’s saves, with how many are new) and Made for you.
Live

Watch together. Heckle in real time.

See who’s watching with you, who saved the next one, and every “ha” as it floats past.

Tuned in to a Live moment on iPhone: LIVE, Pete watching with you, and Pete’s reaction, who sent this, floating up over a pixel-art game.
Invites

One link in the group chat. Everyone’s in.

Drop one link in the chat. Each friend picks a name; you let them in. No passwords.

Built-in AI

It understands every save. You just remember the gist.

ADHX doesn’t just store posts. It looks at the pictures, samples the videos frame by frame, listens to what’s said and reads what’s on screen. That’s how search finds things by description, and how Home, channels and Live know what goes with what. The models run on your server, free: no API bill, no account.

ADHX understanding a saved video of a pixel-art cat whose belly is a toy piano: it sees what’s in the picture, hears what’s said and reads the words on screen. Mum searches “that cat that’s also a piano” and it comes up as a strong match.
Built in · free

Three open models, on your box

  • EmbeddingGemma 2Google’s open modelUnderstands pictures, video and words alike, so “cat playing piano” finds the cat playing the piano.
  • Whisperopen speech modelListens to what’s said in videos, in dozens of languages.
  • Florence-2open vision modelReads the words on screen: subtitles, signs, the caption baked into the meme.

No frame or sound leaves machines you run. Locally it reads the first 32 seconds of each video; a spare Mac can take the heavy lifting and read the whole thing.

Optional

Jev, for the finishing touches

Add a key for Jev, TypeSafe’s decision model, and it reads your search against the top results and puts the one you meant first, the way a person would. It also gives channels and Live moments proper names instead of “cluster 7”.

Jev sees your search and the words of the public posts it’s ranking (plus their thumbnails, if you switch on channel pictures). Never who saved what. Leave it off and everything still works.

  • Find it by describing it

The punchline, the song, the thing in the background. Not the caption nobody remembers.

  • A Home that gets your taste

After what’s new, more like what you keep. Learned on your server, not sold to anyone.

  • Channels that sort themselves

Everyone’s saves grouped by what they’re about, then named. Rabbit holes, pre-dug.

  • Live moments

What your lot are saving tonight, gathered into moments as each save lands.

Under the hood. ONNX models through transformers.js, on the CPU, in their own process so the web app never stalls. A post’s words take about a tenth of a second, a picture 3–7 seconds, a video 11–15. Vectors and a keyword index live in SQLite with everything else, and nearly 4,000 tests run on every change. The architecture

Admin

Is it working?No SSH required.

If you run your ADHX, you get an Admin area. Its System page maps the whole setup (your server, the optional Mac helper, every outside service), lights each part green, amber or red, and tells you in plain words what’s wrong and how to fix it.

  • Every queue: what’s waiting, what’s stuck, how fast it’s clearing.
  • The Mac helper: connected, or exactly why not.
  • Settings you change right there: what gets kept, how closely videos are read, who can join. No restart, no YAML.
  • Let people in, send invites, pause the work, hide a post. Every action is logged.

FAQ

Fair questions.

The short answers. The long ones are on GitHub.

What is ADHX?

A private social network you run for one group of friends and family. Everyone saves the best posts they find on the big networks, and ADHX keeps a copy of each and plays them in one feed, with the face of whoever saved it. You decide who joins.

Can my mum use it?

Yes. One of you runs it; everyone else taps an invite link and picks a name. No password to remember, and it works in any browser. For saving from her iPhone’s share button, whoever runs your ADHX can offer the app through TestFlight, or she can add a three-step Shortcut from Settings. Android installs the app from GitHub.

Is ADHX free?

Yes. It’s open source under the MIT licence, with no subscription and no ads. You pay for wherever you run it, which can be a computer you already own.

Can I try it before installing anything?

Yes. demo.adhx.com is a live ADHX where you’re Sam and your friends have been busy. No sign-up, and nothing you do there is saved.

What does it need to run?

Anything with Docker, amd64 or arm64: a NAS, a mini PC, a spare laptop or a small cloud server. 4 GB of memory is comfortable (2 GB works with speech and screen text switched off), and no GPU. Roughly 10–30 GB of disk per 1,000 saves. The first start downloads about 800 MB of search models in the background.

Which networks can I save from?

X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, Facebook, LinkedIn, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Pinterest, Twitch, Threads, Imgur and Bluesky. Share a post to ADHX from the app, or paste its link.

What does the AI do, and does it send my data anywhere?

Three open models run on your own server, free: EmbeddingGemma 2 understands pictures, video and words, Whisper listens to speech and Florence-2 reads text on screen. That powers search by description, the For you part of Home, self-sorting channels and Live moments. The models are downloaded once from Hugging Face, and no frame or sound leaves machines you run. The optional Jev key sends your search and the words of the public posts being ranked to TypeSafe (thumbnails too, if you switch on channel pictures), never who saved what.

Who can join?

People you send an invite link to. Your friends don’t need an email address and you don’t need email set up: make a link, send it, they pick a name and they’re in. Send one link per person, or one group link to the whole chat: everyone who joins with it waits until you let them in. Links run out after a week, and you can make anyone your friends invite wait for your approval too. Signing up by email is off unless you list who may in Admin → System → Settings.

Who can see what we save?

Your feed, your faces and who saved what are only for people on your server. A few pages open for anyone with the link: a shared post’s preview page (which never says who saved it) and Right now, which shows what’s being saved with counts but no names. Search engines are kept out unless you switch them on in Admin → System. The kept file of a shared post plays for anyone with its address. Want nothing reachable from outside? Keep ADHX on your home network or Tailscale. Just for me keeps a save to yourself.

Is it OK to download other people’s posts?

ADHX is for keeping posts for yourself and your group, not republishing them. It keeps the creator’s name on every post, and copyright stays with them. Each network has its own terms about downloading, so check the ones that matter to you. Admins can hide any post in one click, and every hide is logged.

What happens when the original post is deleted?

Nothing, for your group. ADHX keeps a real copy in the best quality the network offers when it’s saved, and plays it from your server. It can’t keep posts that are private or DRM-protected.

What happens when a network changes something?

Downloads go through yt-dlp, and X through FxTwitter. When a network changes, saving from it can break until those tools catch up. Copies you already kept are safe on your server.

How do I update it and back it up?

Pull the new image and restart, or run the installer again; the database updates itself on start. Everything ADHX keeps is in one /data folder: stop ADHX and copy it.

Bring your people. Leave the algorithm.

Look around the demo as Sam, or have your own running before the kettle boils.
