It has genuinely changed how I research and trade - I wish I had discovered it sooner.\n\nIn this article, I'm giving you the entire playbook for transforming Claude into your Chief of Investments: \n\n- How to connect Claude to live market data\n\n- How to build your personal memory & context system \n\n- Real prompting examples \n\n- How to automate the entire workflow (loop engineering)\n\n- Optimising this setup (my pro tips)\n\nThis is a banger, and I haven't seen anyone else talk about anything even close to this.\n\nLet's get right into things:\n\n## Connecting Claude to Live Market Data\n\nThe foundation of this entire system starts with connecting Claude to a live market data source. Without this, nothing else matters.\n\nFor this step, we won't be using any APIs; instead, we'll use the FMP connector.\n\nI've tried many live market data MCPs, and this has been the best hands down.\n\nNot sponsored - just genuinely a good product with 250 free calls a day. \n\nHow to Connect to FMP\n\nGo into Claude → Connectors → Add connector → Browse connectors. \n\nHere, you'll find an entire library of integrations you can search through. \n\nGo ahead and search for \"FMP.\"\n\n![FMP Connector](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObPmD-asAA1_op.jpg)\n\nNext, follow the on-screen steps to connect Claude + FMP (sign in, verify, etc.).\n\nWhat FMP gives you \n\nOnce connected, Claude has access to: \n\n- Live quotes and 30+ years of price history \n\n- Fundamentals and financial statements \n\n- SEC filings and earnings transcripts \n\n- Analyst estimates and price targets \n\n- Insider and congressional trades \n\n- Screeners, technicals, and calendars \n\n- ETF holdings \n\n- All markets. Including crypto and forex \n\nPricing \n\nAs mentioned above, basic is free and gives you 250 calls a day, which is plenty to test everything in this article. \n\nIf you're a serious power user who wants to run multiple automated flows, the Starter plan at $19 a month is the sweet spot. \n\nAgain, not sponsored - that's just where I personally landed after using it properly. \n\n![FMP - pricing ](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObQkyNb0AAm8oB.jpg)\n\nOne thing to note before we continue \n\nClaude will sometimes default back to scraping the web instead of using FMP. \n\nWhen that happens, you're getting Yahoo Finance and whatever else it found, not live data - and it won't tell you. \n\nSo every time you get a data source, check for the FMP logo in the output. If it isn't there, you're not looking at live data. \n\nA simple habit that fix this: specify FMP explicitly in your prompt every time. \n\nExample: \"Use FMP connector for all queries in this chat.\"\n\n## Building Your Personal Memory & Context System\n\nNow that Claude has access to live market data, we need to give it some personal context about you so it can use all the market data in a helpful way.\n\nFolder Setup\n\nCreate a folder on your desktop with five Markdown files inside.\n\n1. Investor-profile.md \n\nEverything about you as an investor. \n\nInclude: experience and background, goals and time horizon, risk tolerance, portfolio size, and so on. \n\nEasiest way to build this: open a voice session with Claude and brain dump. \n\n![Investor-profile.md](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObT_a8bUAAaqll.jpg)\n\n2. Strategy.md\n\nHere, attach your investment framework. \n\nThings like: maximum drawdown you'll accept, rebalancing parameters, position sizing targets, entry and exit criteria. \n\n![Strategy.md](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObULKlaUAA9-fa.jpg)\n\n3. Portfolio.csv\n\nYour current positions and weightings.\n\nThe more data you include here, the better. \n\nI recommend a simple spreadsheet here\n\n![Portfolio csv](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObSzmKaQAAUZqj.jpg)\n\n4. Watchlist.md \n\nYour full watchlist (sectors, tickers, potential trade setups).\n\n![Watchlist.md](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObUS4PaoAAUjvu.jpg)\n\n5. Prompts.md \n\nYour saved prompts, so you're not rewriting them every session (more on this later).\n\n![Context Layer (5 files summarised)](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObSnwMaQAAl6hP.jpg)\n\nPro Tip: you don't need to set these folders up manually - you can just ask Claude to do it on your behalf and inject the data you give it into each.\n\nTo make things easy, at the very end of this article I've included a full setup guide that instructs Claude to complete this entire folder setup process in 60 seconds. \n\nStick around until the end of the article, and I'll share it with you directly. \n\n## How to Use the System (+ real prompting examples)\n\nEverything up until this point was purely prerequisites. \n\nNow, let me walk you through how to actually use the system and real prompting examples.\n\nSetting up the workspace \n\nOpen Cowork on desktop rather than a normal chat.\n\nGo ahead and start a new project called something like \"My Investing.\"\n\nWithin the project, start a new chat and attach your folder we set up above, which contains all your investing context.\n\n![Attaching folder](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObW3AmaUAAzMaA.jpg)\n\nLet Claude know it will be strictly for FMP analysis. \n\n![Starting a new chat ](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObWLtDbAAA3Z6k.jpg)\n\nAt the beginning of the chat, feel free to also verify if you're connected to FMP with a simple \"are you connected to FMP?\" verification prompt. \n\nFrom here, you can now prompt your project for anything you could imagine\n\n- Portfolio analysis \n\n- Financial advice (always verify before actually taking advice from an AI)\n\n- Research \n\n- Vibe-code custom dashboards \n\nThis list could go on forever, but let me show you some of my personal favorite workflows. \n\n1. General Overview \n\nPrompting Claude for general portfolio/stock analysis.\n\n![General Overview](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObX8WobQAAkTIB.jpg)\n\nThe cool thing about this is that since we built a memory system earlier, every response Claude gives you will actually be based on your personal investment thesis and goals.\n\nIf you include your ideal trading setups, Claude will also analyse various price data and let you know if any trades are forming based on your strategy (and exactly how to size into them). \n\n2. Earnings Reports \n\nThe other day, this was actually incredibly helpful for me in identifying both $GOOGL and $META earnings reports. I hold both of these stocks, and instead of digging through news or financial reports, I just easily got Claude to send me reports directly with loops (more on loops later). \n\nExample with $TSLA:\n\n![$TSLA earnings report](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObZRQ4awAAbj68.jpg)\n\nWhen asking for earnings reports, Claude will even give you direct links to sources to read further and give you a full breakdown of the bull/bear case based on your strategy.md file. \n\n3. Comparisons \n\nI've also found this system valuable for comparing stocks/ETFs against each other.\n\nFor example, I was looking to get exposure to a general robotics ETF, and I used this setup to compare all the various funds against each other (expense ratio, historical performance, company weightings, etc.) \n\nAlso very good for individual company analysis ( $AMD versus $NVDA ): \n\n![AMD versus NVDA ](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObaGsWa8AEU5OZ.jpg)\n\nOther prompts worth mentioning \n\n- Sourcing & identifying small caps\n\n- Sector research \n\n- Prompts like \"what are expert analysts saying about [x].\"\n\nYou get the idea. This is a super valuable tool for financial research, trading ideas, and even autonomous portfolio management - the best part is, it literally only takes <5 minutes to get started.\n\n## Automating It (Loop Engineering)\n\nEverything so far still requires you to open Claude and send prompts. \n\nIf you want fully autonomous data reporting, this section is for you.\n\nScheduled Tasks \n\nLet's say you want a daily market report every day at 9 am. You can prompt Claude exactly for that.\n\nCowork → Scheduled Tasks → New task \n\nSimply create a scheduled task, attach your investment folder/project, and add the prompt you want Claude to run.\n\n![Scheduled Task](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObbtQDbUAAtExq.jpg)\n\nSome ideas for scheduled tasks \n\n- Complete portfolio analysis \n\n- Daily news \n\n- Overnight market moves \n\n- Trading ideas based on set parameters \n\n![Morning loop - real output](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HObb-xybYAA4c4K.jpg)\n\nLoop & Goal Engineering \n\nYou can also run /loop & /goal inside Claude to have Claude use the FMP connector to work towards a goal.\n\nExample: \"/goal research the robotics sector until you find 10 companies that fit my exact investment parameters.\"\n\n## Optimising the System & Pro Tips \n\nFinal tips before we close out.\n\n1. Trade Execution \n\nTo take things a step further, you can actually even automate real trade execution.\n\nYou would do that by connecting Claude to your exchange and giving it a set of instructions for executing real positions. \n\nIf you're interested in setting that up and adding an extra layer, read this:\n\n2. Dashboards & Visuals \n\nA cool use case for this system is creating custom dashboards and vibe-coded tools based on your data. \n\nFor example, you could create a visual of all your holdings, a graph of your portfolio performance, bar charts, etc.\n\n3. System Prompts \n\nFeel free to create custom instructions and system prompts inside your investing project.\n\nFor example, if you want Claude to be concise with outputs or respond a certain way, you can always add an Instruction.md file in your context layer.\n\nLastly, I have to mention this: always be cautious when taking advice from AI. These are powerful tools, but always use your own judgment before letting AI execute anything on your behalf. \n\n## Final Thoughts \n\nAs mentioned earlier, if you want Claude to set up this entire system for you, I put together a free guide that instructs Claude on exactly what to do.\n\nAll I ask for you to gain access is two things:\n\n1. Subscribe to my free market newsletter (no spam ever, and I genuinely believe we built the best finance x AI publication online)\n\n1.
