10 beginner-friendly ideas to build with Claude Code (Prompts included)
If you can type, you can build with Claude Code.
Here are 10 ideas to get you started. Zero technical background required. I've included the exact prompts you can use.
1. Turn your resume into a personal website
Feed Claude Code your resume and ask it to build you a polished portfolio site. Want a specific look? Find some visual references online first and ask it to match that style.
"Here's my resume [attach file]. Build me a clean, modern personal website that showcases my experience and projects. I like the visual style of [reference URL]. Try to match that aesthetic. I have zero coding experience, so walk me through every step."
(To attach a file, just drag it into the chat with Claude Code.)
2. Build a browser extension for language learning
Create an extension that lets you highlight text on foreign-language websites, get AI-powered definitions based on context, and save words to your own vocabulary list.
"Build me a browser extension for language learning. When I highlight text on any webpage, it should show me an AI-generated explanation based on the surrounding context, and let me save words to a personal vocabulary list. I don't know how to code. Give me simple, step-by-step instructions for everything I need to do."
3. Make a habit tracker based on your health data
Upload your health checkup report and have Claude Code build you a personalized habit tracker and check-in app tailored to your results.
"Here's my recent health checkup report [attach file]. Based on the results, build me a simple daily habit tracker app that helps me improve the areas that need attention. Include a a streak feature that helps me keep up. Explain everything in plain language. I'm not a developer."
4. Declutter your messy folders
Got a chaotic desktop or Downloads folder? Just ask Claude Code to organize it. Seriously, just tell it what you want and let it work.
"My Downloads folder is a mess. Go through it and organize the files into sensible subfolders based on file type and content. Before you move anything, show me your plan and ask for my approval. I'm not technical, so keep your explanations simple."
5. Transcribe your meeting recordings
Dump your meeting audio or video files into a folder. Claude Code can transcribe them using OpenAI Whisper (which runs locally and is free!), clean up errors, and label who's speaking.
"I have a folder of meeting recordings at [folder path]. Use OpenAI Whisper to transcribe each file to text. Clean up any obvious errors and add speaker labels where you can tell people apart. Save each transcript as a separate document. Walk me through any setup I need to do. I'm a complete beginner."
6. Analyze your personal finance
Toss your bills and statements into a folder and ask Claude Code to analyze your expenses and generate a dashboard so you can actually see where your money goes.
"I've put my recent bank statements and bills in [folder path]. Analyze my spending patterns, categorize my expenses, and create a simple visual dashboard that shows where my money is going. I don't know how to code, so guide me through anything I need to do myself."
7. Create your own personalized dictionary
Build a dictionary app that uses a language model to explain words the way you like: add image generation, flashcard features, spaced repetition, whatever you want.
"Build me a personal dictionary app. When I enter a word, it should use an AI to generate an explanation in a casual, easy-to-understand style with example sentences. Add a flashcard feature so I can review saved words. I'm not a programmer. Give me dead-simple instructions for any steps I need to take."
8. Turn YouTube videos into articles
Got a favorite video you wish was a blog post? Tell Claude Code and it'll grab the transcript and rewrite it however you specify.
"I want to turn this YouTube video into a well-written article: [YouTube URL]. Get the transcript, then rewrite it as a clear, engaging blog post. Keep the key insights but make it flow naturally as written content. I have no coding background, so handle everything and just tell me if you need anything from me."
9. Automate something annoying in your workflow
Think about a repetitive task that eats up your time: renaming files, reformatting documents, data analysis, whatever it is. Describe it to Claude Code and see what it builds.
"I spend way too much time [describe your repetitive task]. Build me something that automates this. I don't know how to code at all, so explain everything in plain English and give me super clear instructions for anything I need to do on my end."
10. Let the AI interview you
Still stuck? Just say this:
"I'm a total beginner who wants to start building with Claude Code but I have no idea what to make. Interview me. Ask me 10 questions, one at a time, and help me find a few project ideas I can actually build that solve real problems in my life."
